The truth about this ‘photo’ of Labor’s girl gang supposedly wearing Gucci, Versace, Prada and Louis Vuitton

Senior Labor minister Tanya Plibersek has condemned an AI-generated image falsely depicting herself and other female cabinet ministers in designer outfits, warning of the risks artificial intelligence poses to Australian politics.

The fake image shows ministers Anne Aly, Anika Wells, Clare O’Neil and Plibersek seated in parliament dressed in luxury brands like Gucci, Versace, Prada and Louis Vuitton.

The image is an edited version of an Australian Associated Press photo taken during question time in parliament on November 25, 2025.

The genuine image shows the ministers in standard business attire, with no designer labels to be seen.

Responding to the doctored image on Tuesday, Plibersek said she had become a frequent target of AI-generated material, branding it ‘slop’.

‘I know a lot of people are worried about AI and how it’s already changing our daily lives,’ she said.

‘This photo is one of the milder examples of the ways my image has been manipulated. Most of the AI slop doesn’t dress me up in Louis Vuitton, and a lot of it is too inappropriate to share.’

Plibersek said the government needed to remain ‘clear-eyed’ about AI laws

Plibersek said it was crucial that the government remained ‘clear-eyed’ about the risks of AI.

‘Australia might seem like a small player in this global conversation, but we have a history of standing up to big tech when it matters,’ she said.

‘We did it with our world-leading social media ban, and we’ll continue that work through the digital duty of care.’

The minister said future reforms should focus on establishing clear standards for AI and protecting Australian creators and rights holders.

‘The next challenge is setting national standards for AI and protecting the IP of Australians,’ she said.

The altered image has been shared widely online, including on Facebook and X, with some social media users appearing to believe it was genuine.

‘They should be sacked now for their incompetence and grifting off our public purse – the devil wears Prada,’ one person said.

The Daily Mail has contacted X for comment.

In July, the Albanese government unveiled plans to introduce national standards and laws for artificial intelligence, to ‘ensure AI works in Australia’s interests.’

The Office of AI was established within Prime Minister Albanese’s department, which will work with National Cabinet to create national AI standards.

The government hopes to implement those standards by next year through legislation.
