Police investigating after body is discovered dumped by the side of a country road on Christmas morning

A man is in custody after a body was found dumped by the side of a country road on Christmas morning. 

An off-duty police officer found the body – which belongs to a man in his 20s – on the side of Martyville Road, in Martyville, near Innisfail, in Far North Queensland, around 5.20am on Wednesday. 

Following inquiries at a nearby address, Queensland Police a 27-year-old man into custody. 

Investigations are ongoing. 

Earlier, a Queensland Police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia detectives are investigating how the man died.

‘Forensic Crash Unit and Detectives from Innisfail have been advised and are investigating.

‘There is no further information at this time but investigations into the cause of death are ongoing.’

Police have urged anyone with information in relation to the incident or with dash cam footage to contact police on 13 14 44.
