Former Made in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo has been accused of handing out disinformation claiming that vets are heavily paid by major dog brands to promote their products.

The former I’m a Celebrity winner recently founded a raw dog food brand named Wild Pack after saying she found out that dried kibble contains glycotoxins.

She has since been at odds with the pet food industry describing it as the ‘kibble cartel’, saying that glycotoxins are harmful to dogs and is linked to cancer, diabetes, and kidney failure.

It comes after she says her dog food business was rejected from joining UK Pet Food, the governing body for manufacturers and suppliers.

Speaking to her 1.8m Instagram followers, she claims that she has ‘discovered an industry rotten to the core when I entered the shadowy world of dog food.’

Toffolo’s boyfriend, ex-BrewDog CEO James Watt also came to her defense claiming he faced a similar issue in the alcohol industry

What is kibble?

  •  Kibble is dog food containing meat, grains, and vegetables that are dried and reshaped into small pellet-sized pieces.
  • It is a popular choice among dog owners due to its convenience, prices, and the fact that it’s a shelf stable product.

She says that vets are ‘on the payroll of these huge companies’ and ‘said to be paid up to £30,000 to promote kibble’ from leading brands like Purina and Pedigree.

Toffolo added that the largest pet companies pay up to £2m a year to be a member of UK Pet Food.

She said: ‘So next time you get nutrition advice from your vet, check first to see if they are on the cartel’s payroll.

‘The kibble cartel has established a system that produces the food, pays the vets and regulates the industry all at the same time. They are judge, jury and executioner.

‘Sadly those on the chopping block are our precious dogs’

Leading trade body UK Pet Food told the Evening Standard: ‘Unfortunately, this deliberate misinformation risks causing pet owners unnecessary alarm and concern. There is no basis for Wild Pack’s claims.

However, a number of vets also responded criticising the post claiming that it is ‘scaremongering at its finest’.

Another vet responded by saying she has never accepted money to promote products

A number of vets also responded criticising the post claiming that it is ‘scaremongering at its finest’.

One user said: ‘A shame you are slandering vets to boost your company. I’m a vet. I’ve never been offered or accepted money to promote any product to my clients. Remind me how influencers make their money again?’

Another added: ‘Really upsetting to see these false claims against vets. As a vet myself I have never been paid by any of these brands and do not know a single vet who is.

‘These brands make prescription diets with scientifically proven results. This is scaremongering at its finest. Please consider all parties when talking about these things’

Meanwhile, the former Made in Chelsea received support from friends like Carrie Johnson, who said: ‘Well done for shining a light on this! This is a really brilliant campaign. Let me know if I can support in any way’.

Toffolo’s boyfriend, ex-BrewDog CEO James Watt also came to her defense claiming he faced a similar issue in the alcohol industry.

He wrote: ‘I am so glad you decided to share this! Such an important video in such an important cause.

‘It is so shocking. Kinda feels like the beer cartel we found when we set up BrewDog in 2007.’
