Transfer Deadline Day LIVE: Chelsea deal COLLAPSES over ‘Club World Cup tax’, Liverpool ‘active’… and Man City ready to confirm they are the big spenders

Follow Mail Sport’s live blog on the closing day of this summer’s special early transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup as teams look to bolster their squads ahead of the competition.

That’s all for today…

Thank you for joining us for deadline day.

And it’s only six days until the transfer window re-opens!

Until then…

What’s happened on deadline day?

It’s been a busy deadline day, and here’s a little rundown of what has happened…

Jobe Bellingham joins Borussia Dortmund

Man City sign Rayan Cherki and Marcus Bettinelli – with Tijjani Reijnders expected to be confirmed later

Chelsea miss out on Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens

Reijnders set to be announced later

Tijjani Reijnders underwent his Man City medical on Sunday and it is understood that he is likely to be unveiled as a City player either tonight or tomorrow morning.

This means Pep Guardiola should have Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Cherki and Reijnders all available for the Club World Cup.

Cherki could have been at United… now he’s at City

Cherki arrives on a five-year deal

Cherki’s contract will run until June 2030.

The attacking midfielder is one of the biggest talents in European football, and we will be seeing him in the Premier League next season.

City leave it late, but they’ve got Cherki!

We wondered if City might have missed the deadline for Cherki, but they’ve got him in the end.

What about Reijnders?…

Man City have completed the signing of Rayan Cherki on a five-year deal for an initial £30.5m from Lyon. The France international becomes the club’s third addition of the window.

Man City confirm the signing of Rayan Cherki

Man City have got their man, with Rayan Cherki joining for £34m from Lyon.

He is now set to play at the Club World Cup.

The special transfer window is shut!

The transfer window is shut… for now!

But did any clubs get some paperwork over the line just before the deadline?

Reijnders on the bench for the Netherlands tonight as he nears City move

Teenage star will NOT be joining Real Madrid for the Club World Cup

Man City release new away shirt, but will Reijnders and Cherki be wearing it at the Club World Cup?

Less than 30 minutes left of the window!

The countdown is well and truly on now. Remember the window shuts at 7pm tonight.

Will we see any last-minute deals?

Jobe following in Jude’s footsteps

Chelsea ‘set to return for Gittens after the Club World Cup’

We now do not expect Jamie Gittens to join Chelsea today, but that does not mean Chelsea have given up hope of signing him this summer.

The Blues are expected to make another move for Gittens when the transfer window re-opens as they remain interested in the winger.

Victor Osimhen ‘dreaming’ of a Premier League move

Victor Osimhen has rejected a move to Saudi Arabia, but where could he be heading this summer?

The Napoli striker is reportedly dreaming of a move to the Premier League, which could be good news for Man United.

Osimhen looked to be close to joining Al-Hilal from Napoli after spending the season on loan with Galatasaray and pipping Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce side to the Super Lig crown.

Man United ‘set asking price for Alejandro Garnacho’

Alejandro Garnacho will not be leaving Man United today, but it seems only a matter of time before he does move on after falling out with Ruben Amorim.

Several clubs – including Chelsea and Aston Villa – are interested in the winger, but United reportedly want £70m for him this summer.

Manchester United have reportedly set their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho ahead of his expected Old Trafford exit this summer.

Reijnders and Cherki still not confirmed

We are into the final hour of this special window and Man City have still not announced the signing of Tijjani Reijnders or Rayan Cherki.

Getting twitchy at all, City fans?

Aston Villa to land Feyenoord striker

Aston Villa will complete the signing of Feyenoord striker Zepiqueno Redmond next month.

Redmond underwent his medical today and is set to finalise his move in the coming weeks.

Barcelona ‘set to sign new goalkeeper’

Barcelona are due to sign goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Garcia will pen a five-year deal with the Catalan giants in the coming days.

Fulham striker heading to Celtic

By Simon Jones

Fulham striker Callum Osman, 19, is closing on a move to Celtic.

Celtic are looking to add to their ranks after cruising to another league title last season.

Where should Jack Grealish go this summer?

Jack Grealish’s Man City career appears to be over, but where could he head next?

Everton are interested in the winger, and Mail Sport’s IAN HERBERT believes they could be the perfect team to help Grealish get back on track.

IAN HERBERT: The Jack Grealish who would be found working with his personal strength and conditioning coach until 7pm on many a night at Aston Villa is not widely appreciated. That’s unfair.

Jamie Gittens to Chelsea ‘is OFF’

Chelsea look set to miss out on signing Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund today.

Sky Germany have reported that Chelsea offered €55m (£47m), but this was rejected by Dortmund.

Brighton set to sign Olympiacos forward

Brighton are closing in on signing Olympiacos forward Charalampos Kostoulas.

He is due to undergo his medical tomorrow ahead of joining the Seagulls later this month when the transfer window re-opens.

Trent Alexander-Arnold set to be unveiled by Real Madrid this week

Real Madrid unveiled Dean Huijsen today following his £50m move from Bournemouth.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will get his own unveiling on Thursday, with the right back due to be in action for England tonight.

Dean Huijsen was Real Madrid’s first signing of the Xabi Alonso era and they pipped a host of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea , Liverpool , Arsenal and Newcastle, for his signature.

Quiet deadline day for West Ham

Nothing much on the horizon for West Ham today. As we have reported for a while, it’s out before ins due to PSR concerns after two years of dreadful spending.

Because of this the Hammers are going to have to ‘box smart’ in the transfer market, as one source put it to Mail Sport today, with an eye on younger players with potential, likely from the Championship.

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney and Sheffield United midfielder Sydie Peck have both been mentioned.

Man United keen on Gianluigi Donnarumma

Could Man United be set to sign a Champions League-winning goalkeeper this summer?

The Red Devils have reportedly enquired about a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is set for talks over his future with PSG shortly.

Onana joined the club in a £47.1million deal two years ago, but has endured an indifferent time at Old Trafford and various reports have suggested the club are looking at replacing him this summer.

Ajax pushing for Liverpool goalkeeper

By Simon Jones

Ajax want Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on loan. The Czech Republic international, 23, is well known to Ajax coach John Heitinga after working with him last season.

Liverpool have already sold goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford in this window, but they have also signed Armin Pecsi, while Giorgi Mamardashvili is due to join from Valencia this summer.

Will Reijnders and Cherki join Man City today?

By Sam Brookes

City have already got Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli through the door in the last 24 hours, but they are hoping to also sign Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki today.

We expect the deals to go through, but the clock is ticking!

Angel Gomes set to stay in France

By Sam Brookes

Former Man United star Angel Gomes has been linked with a return to England, but he is now closing in on joining Marseille.

It would be a free transfer, with his Lille contract set to expire at the end of the month.

The England midfielder confirmed his departure from Lille this summer, ending his five-year stay with the club. The 24-year-old, who has been capped four times by the Three Lions, left United in 2020.

Could Conor Coady be heading to Rangers?

By Simon Jones

Rangers are weighing up a move for Leicester City defender Conor Coady.

Leicester were relegated to the Championship last month, but the England international could be heading to the Scottish top flight soon.

Jobe Bellingham checks in at Dortmund

By Sam Brookes

Jobe Bellingham completed his move to Borussia Dortmund earlier today, and the German giants have now posted a video of him checking out his new surroundings.

Stay with us into the evening

We’re only a couple of hours away from the end of this miniature transfer window.

Here at Mail Sport, we’ll be keeping our eyes on all the big talking points: Florian Wirtz, Jamie Gittens, Kevin De Bruyne, Benjamin Sesko, and many more.

Sam Brookes will be taking over for the remainder of the evening, so do give him a warm welcome.

Incoming Aston Villa striker ‘completes medical’

Sky Sports claim that Feyenoord striker Zepiqueno Redmond has completed a medical ahead of his move to Aston Villa.

Mail Sport reported last month that Unai Emery’s side were going to pick up the 18-year-old on a free.

His four-year deal will begin on July 1.

Redmond made four Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord’s first team last season and also featured in the Champions League, playing against AC Milan and Inter at the San Siro.

Jamie Gittens valuation ‘revealed’

Chelsea’s latest bid of £42million is understood to be closr to Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of Jamie Gittens.

Though the German giants turned down the second offer, Chelsea are close – though there is no particular rush to get the deal over the line.

Galatasaray ‘become favourites for Leroy Sane’s signature’

A potential blow to Arsenal here: Galatasaray have been reported as the favourites to snap up Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane.

The 29-year-old winger’s contract expires this month.

And wait… there’s yet another addition for City (sort of)

Manchester City — sort of — have made another addition.

I’m told that City Football Group have appointed James McCarron as global director of player development.

He was previously at Belgian club Lommel as sporting director and specialises in player trading and pathways development.

Manchester City make ANOTHER coaching addition

You’ll never guess who it is! That picture on the left really isn’t a giveaway…

JACK GAUGHAN: City saw three of Guardiola’s coaching team – Juanma Lillo, Carlos Vicens and Inigo Dominguez – depart the club at the end of the season and they have moved to replace them.

Al-Hilal ‘continue seeking shock loanees’

Earlier today, we wrote how Al-Hilal have targeted the shock loan signing of N’Golo Kante – from fellow Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Now they are reportedly after Riyad Mahrez from Al-Ahli in a desperate bid to bolster their Club World Cup squad.

They’re in a group with Real Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg, and Mexican side Pachuca. How will they fare?

Chelsea ‘have not given up’ on Jamie Gittens

A second bid rejected? No matter for Chelsea, says Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol.

He claims Chelsea still think they can get a deal over the line, although Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of around £55m would be a stretch.

Champions League club ‘advance in talks for Angel Gomes’

England star and former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes is reportedly closing in on a move to Marseille.

He had been touted as a target for Premier League clubs after another impressive season for Lille, who he is leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

Florian Wirtz’s STAGGERING potential Liverpool salary

Florian Wirtz could reportedly become the second or third-highest earner at Anfield.

You can watch our video below for more information.

Is he worth this much?

Chelsea unveil Mamadou Sarr: A ‘dream come true’

Mamadou Sarr joined Chelsea from Strasbourg for £12million on an eight-year deal on Monday.

The centre-back has just been unveiled and said his first words as a Blue.

‘The dream is to win the Premier League and the Champions League with Chelsea,’ he told the club website.

‘I know Malo (Gusto) well as I was at school with him at Lyon. I know Andrey (Santos) and Djordje (Petrovic). I know Romeo (Lavia) a bit. I played against him, we spoke a bit and he’s a good guy. I spoke with Malo before coming here, and Romeo a bit, and Andrey and Djordje.

‘Since I was young I dreamed of playing for a club like this. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am very happy.

‘For me, Chelsea is the best club in London, one of the best clubs in England. Chelsea have a good project in place for young players. The supporters, the club, it’s history and the stadium are all fantastic. It’s an iconic club with a full history.

‘It was a dream come true when I saw the badge everywhere, the badge I used to see playing FIFA before – I realised where I am and who I will train with. I have a good impression of Cobham. It’s very big, a beautiful training centre. The people have been very kind and have welcomed me. It’s just a dream come true.’

Rayan Cherki ‘SIGNS’ Man City deal

Lyon star Rayan Cherki has reportedly penned a five-year contract with Manchester City, according to L’Equipe and Loic Tanzi.

Mail Sport previously reported how City had settled on a £33.7million fee for the 21-year-old.

Last season he scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists.

Borussia Dortmund ‘REJECT Chelsea’s £42million Jamie Gittens bid’

Well, that was fast!

Just over an hour ago we told you that Chelsea had reportedly tabled an improved bid of £42million for Jamie Gittens.

But Borussia Dortmund have turned their noses up at that, according to Sky Germany, despite it being towards the ballpark they had initially wanted.

Dirk Kuyt ruled out of Liverpool assistant job

Bit of a throwback name here.

Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt, who manages Belgian side Beerschot, has been ruled out of the Anfield assistant manager post by his agent.

Arne Slot’s number two John Heitinga must be replaced as he has agreed to become Ajax boss.

But Kuyt’s agent Rob Jansen told the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp: ‘No, it will be a different assistant manager. That would have been great for him. Liverpool’s assistant will be someone else.

‘It would have been great for Dirk. He would have loved to go to Liverpool. Assistant there is of course a serious level.’

Kuyt is likely to depart Beerschot after relegation from the Belgian Pro League, though he did get them promoted there as 2023-24 second-tier title winners.

Man City complete goalkeeper signing

Manchester City have completed the signing of 33-year-old goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea.

The Englishman comes in likely as a replacement for the departing Scott Carson.

He has been described as an important link between players and staff in the Stamford Bridge dressing room, enjoying a ‘fantastic’ relationship with Mauricio Pochettino.

‘It’s an honour to sign for City,’ Bettinelli told the club’s website.

‘I have admired from afar what this Club have achieved since Pep Guardiola arrived and now I am excited to be a part of building on that success.

‘I can’t wait to work with Guardiola, Xabi Mancisidor and the excellent goalkeepers already here and see their methods up close.

‘Hopefully I can contribute in training, the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to win more silverware over the next year.’

Kevin De Bruyne ‘completing Napoli talks’

Kevin De Bruyne’s negotiations with Napoli are in the ‘final stages,’ declares Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

He will reportedly link up with Antonio Conte’s side in the next few days after the final few details have been ironed out.

The Belgian is leaving Manchester City after a decade due to his expiring contract.

YOUR COMMENTS

Right, it’s that time again. Let’s reply to some of your comments. Thanks for your contributions and for engaging with the blog.

JimmyRoyal from Reading asks: ‘Why isn’t Bellingham staying at Sunderland next season?’

I think the chance to play for a European giant in the Champions League is too big an allure. Plus, football salary database Capology claims his salary is set to increase from £12,500 per week to £56,649. Sure, playing in the Premier League and being a guaranteed starter with Sunderland would have been a draw, but he’ll be thinking Dortmund can catapult his career like they did for his brother.

Jay006 from an unspecified part of England says: ‘I don’t understand why Chelsea didn’t go for Kelleher, a proven Premier League goalkeeper.’

Great shout. I think he would have been an upgrade on any of their current options. Brentford paid £18million for Kelleher – looking at the money Chelsea have squandered in recent seasons, surely they could have stretched to that for him.

Man United’s valuation for Alejandro Garnacho

Mail Sport has previously reported how Manchester United have set a transfer valuation for £60million-£70m for Alejandro Garnacho.

Today, The Independent have firmed that up and said United are asking for a figure at the top end of that scale.

Would you pay that for him? When you think that sort of figure could get you a Viktor Gyokeres or easily a Victor Osimhen, I think there are better options.

Confirmed: Kieran Tierney signs for Celtic

No surprises here: Kieran Tierney is once again a Celtic man after completing a move from Arsenal.

He’ll be looking to help them win a 14th title in 15 seasons and has signed a five-year deal.

‘Everybody’s known for a few months and just to be here with the Celtic strip on again just feels amazing,’ he said.

‘I spoke with the manager, and obviously I had worked with him before and I’ve always kept in touch with him. He’s one of the best so I’m so lucky and grateful that he’s given me the chance to come back again.

‘When you move away from home, you grow up, you learn different things. I was in Spain for a year, learning a different language and playing in a different league, so I’m definitely a different person.

‘Player-wise, it’s the same as I always say – I’ll try and work my hardest, I’ll do my best for the club and that’s all I can do.

‘My ambition is just for Celtic to be as successful as possible, retain our place at the top and continue to win trophies and do well for Celtic.’

PETER CROUCH: My crazy Deadline Day move to Stoke

‘It was an experience I’ll never forget, a day filled with chicken nuggets, curry and delayed emails,’ says Peter Crouch.

In August 2011, the striker was suddenly told that Tottenham would be selling him. What followed was a madcap day, including reports of him being in a helicopter while he was in McDonald’s.

You can read his account of his experience below.

PETER CROUCH COLUMN: Transfer deadline day: those words have taken on a life of their own and created a modern phenomenon. And you don’t need to tell me just how crazy it can be!

AUDACIOUS ‘loan bid’ for N’Golo Kante

This is one of the most shocking transfer stories of the day.

Al-Hilal have submitted a loan bid for N’Golo Kante to fellow Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, according to David Ornstein.

That’s because they want him in for the Club World Cup.

It sounds quite frankly ridiculous – it would be like Manchester City trying to loan Virgil van Dijk for a few important games.

And yet it could happen, because both clubs are majority owned and controlled by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Wouldn’t it just undermine the seriousness of the Saudi league?

Chelsea ‘submit new bid for Jamie Gittens’

Chelsea have reportedly tabled another bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens worth £42.3million.

The Blues have previously had a £29.5m offer turned down.

Enzo Maresca’s side want him through the door in time for the Club World Cup and are willing to hand him a seven-year contract.

‘Multiple Premier League clubs’ approach Real Madrid star Rodrygo

Rodrygo has been approached by multiple Premier League clubs including Arsenal a report has claimed.

The Brazilian winger has fast become one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer so far after reportedly telling Real Madrid that he wished never to play for the club again and choosing not to play in last month’s El Clasico against Barcelona.

That’s one way of saying: “Get me out of here!” The question is: who will his rescuers be?

The Brazilian winger has fast become one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer so far after reportedly telling Real Madrid that he wished never to play for the club again last month.

‘Dear Sunderland, it’s time for me to say farewell to all the loyal people of Sunderland, who have powered me through two incredible years in Red & White.

‘Your support, on so many occasions, has completely blown me away, especially in the times of adversity which we pulled through together. You welcomed me with open arms as a kid leaving home for the first time, and I am proud that our relationship has grown to be so strong ever since. Your support for the team and I since I arrived at your beloved club was unwavering, and for that I am forever indebted to you as people and supporters.

‘I will always represent Wearside in all that I strive to achieve for the rest of my career, wherever that may be.

‘I hope that I have made you proud along the way, and in return you have made me the player that has reached the heights I find myself at today. So thank you. I will love and remember you fondly for the rest of my life, from the bottom of my heart.

‘I tried to embody the passion you have for the city on the football pitch and I’m so incredibly delighted that our journey came to an end with a victory at Wembley to restore the club in its rightful place.

‘To the staff, players & most importantly the supporters thank you so much & good luck for the future.

By Michael Pavitt

Comments are in from Borussia Dortmund chiefs after securing the signing of Jobe Bellingham.

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has offered a glowing assessment of their new signing.

We’ve known Jobe for many years and have, of course, followed his development very closely. He’s taken another huge step forward in the past year and, at 19, has matured into an absolute leader. His presence and charisma in central midfield are remarkable and will make us better in a variety of systems.

We’re pleased that we were able to complete the transfer before the FIFA Club World Cup and that we’ll see Jobe in our colours for the first time in the USA. He’s at his best and is passionate about the task. Jobe wants to and will forge his own path at BVB and put his own stamp on our game.

Managing director Lars Ricken adds:

Jobe is an exceptionally talented player who, despite his young age, already possesses remarkable maturity and game intelligence.

We are convinced that he fits perfectly with our philosophy of promoting young talent and giving them the opportunity to develop at the highest level. His professionalism, dynamism, and ambition will enrich our team.

We look forward to accompanying him on his further journey and are certain that he will play an important role in Borussia Dortmund’s future.

Less obvious are the sacrifices and the challenges along the way, and I couldn’t be prouder of how he’s conducted himself and embraced the Club, the community, and our supporters. He’s lived and breathed Sunderland every step of the way. For our Club, it’s another representation of the strength of our strategy and what’s possible.

Man United’s Mbeumo talks

Manchester United are continuing talks over a swoop for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils had a £55million approach rejected last week and could face competition from Tottenham, who Bees boss Thomas Frank looks set to join.

However, Mail Sport has learnt that Spurs are unlikely to enter the race for Mbeumo with sources disclosing that such a prospect was ‘highly unlikely’.

That gives United a seemingly clear run at the 25-year-old, who scored 20 goals and set up a further nine in all competitions.

How a ‘Club World Cup tax’ hindered Chelsea

By Luke Power

Chelsea’s pursuit of Mike Maignan was reportedly hindered by the fact they are in the Club World Cup – because that caused AC Milan to demand more money.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Milan stuck by a higher valuation of the goalkeeper, which Mail Sport understands to be around £20million – over £7m more than the Blues were willing to pay.

The expanded FIFA tournament, which carries a total prize fund of £741m, could have reverberations for the rest of the summer. If Chelsea go and win it, clubs will know they’ve just received a cash injection and will likely mark up their valuations accordingly.

What does the future hold for Michail Antonio?

By Luke Power

Michail Antonio is closing in on a return to action six months after his horror car crash.

There is one sticking point: his contract is up this summer.

So, what does the future hold for him? Find out below.

The Jamaican international was involved in a serious car accident last December, with his injuries set to rule him out of action for at least a year. Antonio joined West Ham in 2015.

Will Thomas Frank be a success at Tottenham?

The fan who made this meme clearly doesn’t think so!

His move from Brentford is not officially done, but all the signs are pointing in that direction.

I think the biggest step up for Frank will be managing in Europe and coping with the demands on their schedule. But we shouldn’t forget that he experienced the gruelling Championship with Brentford and has also taken Brondby into Europe.

I rate him highly. Sometimes football is a game of chance and however it goes at Spurs, I still think he’s a good manager.

He recently had a game of padel and a chat with Oliver Holt – and that convinced our man that he is perfect for the job.

OLIVER HOLT: Thomas Frank is probably the best man-manager in the Premier League. He is secure enough in himself and his abilities to acknowledge the debt he owes to others.

Another forward blow for Arsenal?

Ouch! Earlier today we learned that Saudi side Al-Hilal are reportedly in for Arsenal striker transfer target Benjamin Sesko, and now this.

Nico Williams is a remarkable player. Watching him at Euro 2024 was a joy. Will we be watching him at the Emirates, though?

Williams is reportedly earning around £6.7million per year at Athletic, the Spain international is claimed to have indicated he will lower his demands to secure a move to Bayern.

YOUR COMMENTS

I think it’s high time we let you guys have a voice on this blog, so I’ve dipped into the comments and picked out a few to give air time to.

Bravedave71 from Sydney says: ‘Any players signing for Spurs? Zero as usual. What a joke of a club.’

To that, I would reply: they don’t have a manager and are not in the Club World Cup, so it’s perhaps best not to rush things.

Null Von Lazarus from France comments: ‘Dortmund paying for the name and not ability.’

Assuming you’re referring to jobe Bellingham, there. The fee of £27.8m is steep. But he was a key player fo Sunderland as they ended their exile from the top flight and he won EFL Young Player of the Season.

ABetterGB from London writes in: ‘Hopefully Guardiola doesn’t extinguish Ait-Nouri’s spirit.’

It’s a good point. Look what has happened to Jack Grealish. Will City even allow him to play the way he has played at Wolves?

Equally, I think you look at someone like Josko Gvardiol and say, actually, the left-back role at City does give breathing room for expression.

Why all the fuss about Ait-Nouri?

One of my friends the other day was bewildered to see City linked with Ait-Nouri – isn’t he just a relegation-battling full-back, he asked?

For the casual fan of the Premier League, it’s probably a surprise to see City make the Wolves man their first summer signing for £33.7million.

But the 24-year-old actually had more goal contributions last season than any other defender in the Premier League with four goals and seven assists.

He also completed 63 dribbles, a total bettered only by Aaron Wan-Bissaka on 64 (something of a surprise).

As for tackles, he ranked 12th in the divison with 89.

His comfort on the ball and defensive aptitude in a struggling team caught City’s eye.

More information on Maignan

Fabrizio Romano broke the story that Mike Maignan’s move to Chelsea has collapsed.

He says Chelsea were unwilling to meet Milan’s price tag – understood by Mail Sport to be as high as £20million – after the Italians asked for more as part of a ‘Club World Cup tax’.

With prize money totalling around £741m for the competition’s 32 clubs, Milan clearly felt the Blues have the resources to shell out that much.

But Enzo Maresca’s side are now said to be fully trusting of their current goalkeeping options for the tournament.

Deadline Day’s CRAZIEST stories

Clubs have until 7pm tonight to get their deals done – and produce some wacky behaviour.

We haven’t seen anything too outlandish in this mini transfer window, but we can hold out hope for a twist. Maybe Mike Maignan will turn up outside the Emirates at 6.30?

Something in the mix of desperation, emotions, and nostalgia fuels a self-fulfilling prophecy of it being the most dramatic day on the transfer calendar.

Liverpool active but relaxed

It could be a busy day at Liverpool but they are relaxed over whether business is done in this ‘special’ transfer window or later.

The two obvious ones are Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Liverpool had a £113million bid rejected for German star Wirtz over the weekend but are planning to return to the table with an improved offer. Both clubs are confident of closing out a deal soon.

Bournemouth are closing in on signing Kerkez’s replacement, Rennes’ £14.3m left back Adrien Truffert, and the two clubs will lock horns to thrash out confirming a fee for the Hungary international soon.

Keep an eye also on Darwin Nunez with Al Hilal showing an interest in signing the striker who the Reds rate in excess of £70m.

Everyone’s talking about Jobe

On the ground here in Bratislava the main talking point from an England Under-21 point of view is the imminent loss from the squad of Jobe Bellingham.

A matter of when rather than if he swaps the Under-21 Euros with England for Borussia Dortmund and the Club World Cup.

England’s youngsters flew out to Bratislava on Friday afternoon and Bellingham was given special dispensation to fly to Germany over the weekend to seal a switch to Dortmund.

Sources at the FA indicate this has been something they’ve been preparing for for a while. Even so, good for Bellingham, bad for England’s Under-21s.

An update on Chelsea and Mike Maignan

KIERAN GILL: No major developments in the Chelsea chase for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan this morning, I’m told.

Still time until the 7pm deadline, but there remains a difference in the clubs’ valuations.

Reminder: he’s a 29-year-old with a single year remaining on his contract, so Chelsea do not feel they should be overpaying for him.

Barcelona ready to go ‘ALL OUT’ to sign Liverpool star

Barcelona are not giving up on their man.

They’ve already been rebuffed once, but that seemingly doesn’t matter.

The LaLiga giants are hungry to bolster their frontline and have their crosshairs set firmly on a Liverpool star.

Newcastle ‘in talks for Burnley goalkeper James Trafford’

Well, this is intriguing.

Newcastle reportedly want James Trafford and Nick Pope to fight it out for their No 1 spot between the sticks next season.

Those situations rarely work out. It has caused confusion at clubs like Arsenal and Brighton in recent seasons.

That said, training every day alongside Pope could be good for Trafford’s development as a shot-stopper.

Juventus announce manager – and EXTEND Kolo Muani loan

Juventus generral director Damien Comolli has announced that Igor Tudor will continue as the club’s manager – despite them having courted multiple replacements including, reportedly, Fulham’s Marco Silva.

Meanwhile, he says they have extended Randal Kolo Muani’s loan from PSG for the Club World Cup.

‘He wants to stay with us next season as well,’ Comolli said.

Is Ayden Heaven the future for Man United?

We’ve heard it’s going to be a quiet day for Man United, but maybe there’s no need to fear: Ayden Heaven is here.

He joined from Arsenal in the last transfer window and has since made an impression when he has been given a chance.

Surely he’s set for a bigger role next season.

NATHAN SALT explores the prospects.

Leeds trot to market for midfielder

Quiet day expected at West Ham

JAMES SHARPE: We’re expecting a quiet deadline day for West Ham, who find themselves in an awkward financial stalemate.

Graham Potter is desperate to overhaul an unbalanced, ageing, bloated squad but Mail Sport has repeatedly been told by senior club sources that the Hammers must sell before they can buy.

The way they hope to do that is by offloading Mohammed Kudus, who has an £85m release clause for Premier League clubs. Chelsea have expressed their interest with the two clubs discussing figures, during which West Ham enquired about the availability of Robert Sanchez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. So far, there’s been no official offer or anything near an agreement.

Kudus has interest from other clubs at home and abroad, with Arsenal the latest to be linked, but as it stands nothing is believed to be close.

Until they get some players out the door, no big signings will be coming in.

Man City appoint TWO coaches

Manchester City have confirmed Jurgen Klopp’s former No 2 Pep Lijnders as their new assistant coach.

They have also appointed James French as a set-piece coach – pinching him directly from their title rivals. French had been at Liverpool since 2012.

Chelsea eye up Jamie Gittens

Another one to watch out for.

Chelsea have been very busy this transfer window, but they’re also looking at Borussia Dortmund’s precocious winger Jamie Gittens, 20, and AC Milan goalikeeper Mike Maignan.

He had a brief stint in Chelsea’s academy.

Benjamin Ses-NO?

Mikel Arteta could be denied his high-scoring number nine if the Saudis get their way.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig forward, who scored 21 goals this season.

But Sky Sports are reporting that Al-Hilal want to join the party after missing out on Victor Osimhen.

Liverpool’s last push for Wirtz

By Luke Power

Liverpool’s final bid for Florian Wirtz weighs in at around £118million.

The German side, who won the league title in 2024, have been holding out for £126m, but Arne Slot’s side do not want to reach that deep into their coffers.

The £118m bid is already a British transfer record – surely that should be a tempting offer?

Jack Grealish could end up abroad

Jack Grealish could call time on his Manchester City career four seasons on from his £100million move.

The Sun reports that Bayer Leverkusen are willing to offer him an escape route amid Liverpool’s pursuit of Florian Wirtz. He is reportedly open to a move away from English shores.

Would that be a good move for Grealish? Does he need a fresh start?

Borussia Dortmund set to pay MORE for Jobe Bellingham than they did for brother Jude

Jobe Bellingham arrived in Germany a couple of days ago ahead of his big-money move to Borussia Dortmund.

Erik ten Hag ‘tried to stop Man United signing Antony for £86million’

Well, this is quite the revision of history!

Erik ten Hag has a reputation for signing his former servants – even when it’s a bad idea.

But a new report claims he was not the brains behind Antony’s £86million switch to Old Trafford in 2022 – and that he even tried to derail it.

Read more in DOMINIC HOGAN’s report below.

The new Bayer Leverkusen boss is widely reported to have been a key figure in the £86million acquisition of the Brazil forward back in 2022, when United welcomed Ten Hag to the dugout.

Is this the end for Harvey Elliott at Liverpool?

Harvey Elliott has warned Liverpool that he cannot be ‘wasting years’ of his career, putting clubs on red alert over a potential exit.

He’s been a faithful servant to the Reds since signing in 2019 but is very much a bit-part player under Arne Slot.

So, with Florian Wirtz also looking set to sign, what’s the future for the midfielder?

Lewis Steele and Nathan Salt discuss.

What’s REALLY going on with Madrid, Arsenal, and Zubimendi?

Arsenal have long been seen as the frontrunners to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder, but reports yesterday suggested Los Blancos wanted to muscle their way in and hijack the move.

So, what’s going on with this Martin Zubimendi chap? Is Mikel Arteta set to be denied one of his top transfer targets? Find out below.

Arsenal have long been viewed as the clear frontrunners for the midfielder, but Reports from Spain claimed Real Madrid were considering hijacking the Gunners’ deal.

Man United continue Gyokeres talks

By Simon Jones

Here’s another one to watch today.

Manchester United are maintaining contact with Sporting Lisbon over striker Viktor Gyokeres.

He is believed to have a £85million release clause, though they have a gentleman’s agreement to let him go for less – how much they’ll reduce their asking price is unclear, as they appear to have reneged on the idea of letting him go for as little as £58m in recent days.

Liverpool’s Nunez valuation revealed

Liverpool won’t settle for peanuts if they’re going to offload Darwin Nunez. Or if they will, it will only be for a LOT of peanuts.

The Reds value the striker in excess of £70million, our transfer expert Simon Jones understands.

That would be a decent recoup on the £85m deal they made to sign him three seasons ago, considering how hot and cold he has blown over that time.

Inter seal new manager

In case you missed it yesterday, Inter have appointed old hand Cristian Chivu as their next manager, replacing Simone Inzaghi, who has swanned off to Al-Hilal.

Why Rayan Cherki will be KEY to Manchester City’s rebuild: NATHAN SALT

Ryan Cherki is a joy to watch. if you saw that madcap game between France and Spain last week, you’ll have witnessed his impact – a goal and an assist off the bench.

He’s a divisive figure, but Nathan Salt explores why he could be critical for Pep Guardiola’s side.

They have settled a £33.7million fee with Lyon.

Rayan Cherki has already endeared himself to Manchester City supporters before kicking a ball for the club.

What could Chelsea be getting in Mike Maignan?

One thing is certain – if Chelsea get their deal over the line for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, they’ll be getting an excellent distributor of the ball.

Whether he’ll get to show off this long ball prowess under Enzo Maresca is another matter, but Chelsea fans, you can enjoy these clips and hope.

Bournemouth ‘agree deal for new left-back’

Could this free up Milos Kerkez to go to Liverpool?

Bournemouth have reportedly sourced their replacement, according to Fabrizio Romano and Sky Sports News, with the fee said to be starting at £10.1m.

However, Sky claim that the deal will only go through if Kerkez goes to Liverpool.

Man City complete £33.7m Ait-Nouri deal

Man City have been going about their rebuild this summer after an underwhelming campaign last season, and have now added Wolves’ former left back Rayan Ait-Nouri to their ranks.

The full back has penned a five-year deal and joins for an initial £31.7m, with add-ons taking the final fee to £33.7m.

He is due to join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Club World Cup, which gets underway later this week.

Manchester City have confirmed their first summer arrival after completing the signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves.

Good Morning!

By Dominic Hogan

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Transfer Deadline Day!

Well, sort of. It’s not the big one, but the end of the special early transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup, which is a first.

Club’s will have a chance to bolster before the registration deadline for the competition, with the window shutting at 7pm tonight, before opening up again on Monday June 16.

So, really, the window is more going for a lunch break rather than slamming shut, but it is a deadline day nonetheless!

We’ll keep you updated with all the latest deals, rumours, and developments on what should be a busy day throughout, so make sure you stick with us!
