SNL fans react after skit compares Elon Musk to Dr. Evil

A Saturday Night Live skit comparing Elon Musk to Dr. Evil has sparked an online uproar – with many loving the creative allusion and others deeming it unfunny.

Saturday’s cold open featured a humorous portrayal of a discussion between President Donald Trump, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and ‘first buddy’ Musk in the Oval Office.

Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, was trying to resolve a feud between Rubio, who was Marcello Hernandez, and Musk, acted out by Mike Myers.

The six-minute scene was based on the explosive clash between Rubio and Musk during a cabinet meeting on Friday.

The segment began with Trump speaking with Rubio about having to get along with Musk.

‘I know you’re under a lot of stress, but I can’t have you fighting with Elon, okay?’ Johnson’s Trump said.

‘I need you to be my good little Marco.’

After Trump cracked a few more jokes, including changing Rubio’s name to Mark Ruby because he made ‘English the official language,’ and bragging about Musk’s DOGE team discovering ‘they’re spending $8 million on making mice transgender,’ Musk joined the opening sketch.

DOGE leader Musk’s SNL character was depicted as high-energy with animated mannerisms

Myers, who played the Tesla mogul last week as well, used animated mannerism and broke out into Musk’s ‘little dance’ – quickly swinging his arms up and down – several times.

The Dr. Evil actor also played into Musk’s tech-centered reputation, shouting ‘glitch, buffering!’ before freezing with his mouth open.

But what fans pointed out the most about the skit was Musk doing the signature Dr. Evil gesture – putting his pinky up to his lips and raising his eyebrow as the Austin Powers antagonist famously does.

‘Phase one of my plan is complete, ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media,’ Myers, voicing Musk’s inner monologue as he starred straight ahead, said.

‘But was taking this job a bad idea? A lot of people really hate me. My Tesla stock is crashing, and my person net worth just dropped by $100 billion,’ he continued as he struck the well-known pose.

Some critics were unimpressed and slammed SNL for being bland.

‘Finally something less funny than The Love Guru,’ someone wrote on X, referring to the failing film that notoriously set back Myers’ career.

Another said: ‘Going for applause and not laughs. SNL needs new management.’

One came up with a new title for the late night show: ‘Saturday Night Lame,’ and a man on Facebook interpreted the cold open as ‘liberals making an a** out of themselves as usual.’

But most of the feedback across various social media platforms was positive, with many having great things to say, specifically about Musk’s character.

‘OMG! He did the Dr Evil thing,’ someone reacted. ‘Mike is the best.’

‘The Dr. Evil reference is GOLD!!…member,’ another agreed.

‘Loved it! The world needs more Mike Myers!’ one YouTube commenter wrote.

Another user chimed in: ‘Making Mike Myers Elon and then having him become Dr. Evil is genius.’

‘This is what SNL has been doing for 40 years…. And I’m a trump supporter. It’s just harmless humor,’ a man on Facebook shared.

Some even said the real-life Musk reminds them of the fictional villain: ‘We all knew that Elon was just Dr. Evil. This sketch just confirms it.’

‘I loved Mike Myers’ Dr. Evil reference. I must say, his Elon Musk voice reminds me of Dr. Evil,’ an X user wrote.
