A mother who abused her son so badly he lost his legs has been attacked in her prison cell.

Jody Simpson was jailed for 10 years in 2018 after she and Anthony Smith tortured six-week-old Tony Hudgell.

Tony, who is now 10 years old, raised £1.8million for charity during the Covid pandemic by walking 10km on his prosthetic legs.

His cruel birth mother, now 31, was released in February 2024 but was recalled to prison in June last year following ‘a relationship with a convicted sex offender’.

An application was made for her next parole board hearing to be heard in public, rather than in private, The Sun reported.

A Parole Board judgment stated: ‘Ms Simpson’s behaviour in custody seems to have been good.

‘Prior to release she was physically assaulted in her room. She is aware there are prisoners who will follow through with their threats and she tries to do all she can to keep herself safe.’

Tony was rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries in 2014, when he was 41 days old, after enduring abuse from his parents.

The couple were found guilty of child cruelty in 2018 and are both serving a 10-year prison sentence.

In 2017, Tony had both legs amputated due to the injuries he sustained as an infant.

He has finally been able to walk unaided without his prosthetic legs, it was reported in December.

His legs are now both equal legs which makes walking easier.

Tony has previously been hailed a hero by Prince William and wife Kate over his extraordinary fundraising walks to help vulnerable children.

He set out to raise £500 for the hospital that saved his life by walking 10km in 30 days in 2020 after being inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised more than £33million walking in his backyard.

In 2021, a foundation set up in his name to enhance the lives of children who have been affected by physical, emotional, or psychological abuse provided more than 700 Christmas presents for youngsters in need, and it continued the tradition last Christmas too.

The child’s phenomenal fundraising achievements come despite an incredibly tough start to life which led to him undergoing 23 operations and eight blood transfusions.
