Horror as two shoppers are stabbed at a bus stop outside a packed Westfield centre in Sydney’s east

A woman and a man have allegedly been stabbed with a pen outside a busy Westfield shopping centre in Sydney‘s eastern suburbs.

The pair were allegedly attacked on a bus outside Westfield Eastgardens on Bunnerong Road in Maroubra shortly after 11.30am on Saturday.

NSW Police said the incident unfolded when a fight broke between the two women, aged 41 and 21, on the bus and the younger woman was stabbed in the face.

A 34-year-old male passenger attempted to separate the two women and he was also allegedly stabbed with the pen.

Paramedics met the bus at the shopping centre and treated the victims. The woman was transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital – initial reports suggested she is pregnant – while the male did not require hospitalisation.

A mother was left shaken after receiving a harrowing call from her children who were visiting the shopping centre at the time.

‘This is so scary… My girls took [the] bus to Eastgardens for a movie. Never been so frightened and helpless when they call me scared, not knowing what was going on,’ she said.

None of the parties are known to each other. The 41-year-old woman was arrested at the scene by officers.

The pair were allegedly attacked while they waited at a bus stop outside Westfield Eastgardens (pictured) in Maroubra about 11.45am on Saturday

NSW Ambulance confirmed two people were being treated with head wounds after a stabbing

Evidence was left on the side of the road outside the Westfield shopping complex

She was taken to Maroubra Police Station where inquiries are ongoing.

NSW Police said the parties were not believed to be known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

A crime scene has been established at the Westfield.

NSW Ambulance told Daily Mail Australia that the female victim was in her 20s while the male was in his 30s.

The man went to a local GP for treatment while the woman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Both are receiving treatment for minor head injuries and both are in stable conditions.

The latest incident comes as a haunting reminder of the Bondi Junction stabbing last April where six people were killed by 40-year-old Joel Cauchi.

Detective Inspector Amy Scott, who stopped Cauchi on that fateful day, was awarded the NSW Police Commissioner’s Valour Medal.
