A 66-year-old man has died after his e-bike smashed into a wall in Canberra’s south.

The rider is believed to have crashed in an underpass on the Athllon Drive bike path in Kambah at 5.10pm on Sunday.

The man died shortly after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

E-bike and e-scooter accident deaths have become increasingly common in recent years.

A recent study by St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney found that more than 500 e-bike riders had required critical care in emergency rooms as a result of accidents.

This latest tragedy follows the death of Khye Brickwell, a 12-year-old boy from Victoria whose e-scooter collided with a car on Wednesday night.

The young boy spent five days in hospital after the crash at Mill Park, in Melbourne‘s north-east, and his organs were donated.

The crash marks the 10th fatality on ACT roads in 2024.
