A serving Metropolitan Police officer who appeared in a BBC documentary has been charged with rape and sexual assault.

PC Mahad Abdalla, 28, is due to appear in court on Friday after also being accused of strangling a woman and of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

The officer, from Chiswick, west London was filmed by a BBC camera crew going about his duties as a response officer in the borough of Ealing as part of the 2019 documentary The Met: Policing London.

He and a colleague were seen having to deal with a drunk driver at 7am in the morning, as well as with two reported incidents of assault on police officers.

PC Abdullah, attached to the Met’s Taskforce, was arrested on May 14 2024 and bailed pending further enquiries before being charged last month.

The officer has been suspended from duty since his arrest.

He will appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court in North London, charged with rape, engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, two counts of intentional strangulation, assault by penetration and sexual assault.

The charges relate to off-duty incidents involving a woman known to him.
