Horror as pregnant woman and her unborn baby are hit and killed after two cars collide in a Hornsby carpark -plater driver, 19, is charged by cops

A pregnant woman and her unborn baby have tragically died after she was hit by a car just seconds after it was allegedly rear-ended by a P-plater driver. 

The 33-year-old, who was eight months pregnant, was on George Street in Hornsby, in Sydney‘s upper north shore, when she was struck about 8pm on Friday. 

Police will allege the 48-year-old driver of a Kia Carnival had slowed at the entrance  to let her pass when the car was hit by a white BMW driven by a 19-year-old man. 

The collision caused the Kia to lurch forward and hit the woman. 

Paramedics treated her at the scene before rushing her to Westmead Hospital in critical condition, where both she and her baby later died. 

Both drivers were uninjured and taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing 

The 19-year-old man was arrested at 12.45am on Saturday at a home in Wahroonga, and was taken to Hornsby Police Station for questioning.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus.

The teenager is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
