Almost 100,000 Optus customers remain unable to call triple-zero, in what spells another outage disaster for the embattled telco. 

Outages were reported across Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton, Mackay, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast throughout Wednesday.

It’s understood the incident is impacting home phones and NBN connections. 

A message on the Optus website states they are aware of an outage impacting customers across Brisbane and ‘certain parts of Queensland‘. 

‘We sincerely apologise for the disruption and thank customers for their patience while our teams work as quickly as possible to restore services,’ the notice read. 

The exact number of customers affected is not known, although the Courier Mail reports the outage is affecting 93,000 homes.

Optus customers have since shared their frustrations online, with one Redlands resident stating she’d not had any coverage since 2am.

A customer from Ipswich, whose network had been dropping in and out all day, said the communication from Optus had been ‘atrocious’ with others suggesting that they should receive a credit to their Optus accounts for the inconvenience.

Another impacted customer, who lives on the Sunshine Coast, said the telco had told her it was the NBN network that is at fault.

‘When you check the NBN Australia outages, they say there’s no problems here,’ she said.

‘[I] don’t know who to believe. Only been with Optus for two days and it ain’t impressing me much.’

The telco has not indicated when the outages are expected to be fixed.
