Sex dolls, wasps and a KFC bucket: Real estate agents reveal the weirdest things they’ve seen on the job

Sex toys being left out in the open is just one of the weird and outrageous experiences real estate agents have encountered while working in the industry.

Agents from O’Brien Real Estate Frankston in Melbourne took turns sharing some of the hilarious – and terrifying – moments in a TikTok video.

‘We had a routine inspection scheduled at a property and the renter had forgotten to put away his blow-up dolls and accessories,’ team leader Jessica Rolfe said.

Senior property manager Emily Parks recalled the time she had to evict a tenant.

‘At my very first lockout I attended with the police, we opened the door and the tenant was sitting on the couch with her partner’s brother,’ she said.

‘The partner found out about it, charged down the road and walked into his bedroom.

‘He pulled out a bow and arrow on his brother because he wasn’t aware that the two of them were there together.’

Managing director Andrew Milne remembered the time a colleague called him for advice after a potential buyer decided to test out the facilities.

‘I was in the office and I got a phone call from one of my team members saying he didn’t know what to do because during an open home, a lady who walked into the property had gone into the bathroom and was having a shower,’ he said.

‘Fortunately, the owner of the property was a retired Uniting Church minister and she came over and saved the day.’

Sales agent Riley Kidman recalled a time the owners of a home refused to make themselves scarce during a busy open house.

‘I was halfway through an open home with about ten buyers in the property and the vendors decided to come in, sit down at the dining table, and eat KFC,’ he said.

Business development manager Sophia Magree, who has spent 10 years in the industry, said she witnessed a violent confrontation mid-open house.

‘I was taking 15 groups of buyers through a sketchy building during an open home and there was a domestic going on,’ she said.

‘Someone threw an entire pane of glass in front of us and it shattered.

‘We all had to pretend it didn’t happen and stepped over it.’

One agent said they had found wasps trapped in one of the rooms

Agent Lewis Gibson got a nasty surprise while touring a home for the first time.

‘During an appraisal, we opened the bathroom door and there must have been about a thousand wasps in there at one time,’ he said.

There was another occasion before an open house when the homeowner’s grandson was in bed with his partner, sparking a ‘a full-on domestic’.

Others in the industry shared their experiences in the comments of the video.

‘I walked in on someone having a good time with himself at a routine inspection,’ one person commented.

‘I have had a female tenant “accidentally” send me nude photos,’ another said.

‘I remember doing an open home one day and this six-year-old kid just decided to do a s*** with the door wide open,’ a third said.

‘This house was full of buyers and they just all walked out so fast.’
