A knifeman was fatally shot by Queensland Police officers in one of three police shootings in less than three hours on Tuesday.

Officers in Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle shot three people, killing two, across three separate incidents on Tuesday morning.

The latest report of a Brisbane man, 21, being shot emerged on Tuesday afternoon.

Queensland Police responded to a welfare check request at a home on on Thurston St in Tingalpa, east Brisbane, about 10.30am.

Officers at the scene were threatened by the man, wielding a knife, and attempted to negotiate with him.

However, he was shot after making continued threats at police.

‘Medical assistance was immediately rendered, however the man died at the scene,’ Queensland Police said in a statement.

Queensland Police Union president Shane Prior told reporters the attending officers had attempted to subdue the man with a taser before opening fire.

‘While trying to detain that person, that male person has lunged at police with a knife,’ he said, The Australian reported.

‘The entire incident has been caught on body-worn camera and I am confident on the briefing I have received today that all police are justified, authorised, by law, in the actions that they took.

‘These officers were confronted with an extraordinarily dangerous situation and they should be very proud in the way that they have responded.

‘Our deepest sympathies go to the family of the male person that is deceased today.’

Acting Chief Superintendent Heath McQueen similarly justified the officers’ actions.

‘These incidents are often dynamic in nature and split-second decisions need to be made,’ he said.

‘My thoughts are with all of the officers involved, emergency services in attendance, and the family of the man involved in this incident today.’

The news broke just hours after NSW Police shot two men.

The first incident occurred at a unit block on Honeysuckle Drive in Newcastle about 8.30am.

The Northern Operations Support Group and Northern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team attended the property to arrest a man wanted on five outstanding arrest warrants.

When officers forced entry into the unit, a 36-year-old man confronted them with a knife.

‘Two Tasers were deployed; however, both were ineffective against the man,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘The man allegedly continued threatening officers with the knife before a police officer discharged a firearm shooting the man.

‘The 36-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.’

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition while under police guard.

NSW Police shot another man in Potts Point, inner-city Sydney, about 10.50am.

Ethical standard commissions will investigate all three shootings (pictured are officers at Potts Point)

Officers were called to a unit block on St Neot Avenue following reports an armed man had entered the complex and assaulted two women with a knife.

The man threatened attending police with the knife before an officer fatally shot him.

The two women were hospitalised for head and facial injuries.

All incidents are being investigated by ethical standard commissions.
