Criminal investigation launched into Renee Good’s wife for ‘impeding’ ICE agents before shooting

Federal officials have launched an investigation into Renee Good’s partner following accusations that she impeded an ICE agent in the moments before her wife’s death, sources say.

Good, 37, was shot three times through the window of her car by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on January 7 after she refused to get out of her vehicle.

According to insiders familiar with the investigation speaking to NBC News, the Justice Department is now moving forward with an investigation into Good’s grieving widow, Rebecca.

The probe will reportedly focus on Rebecca’s ties to activist groups and actions leading up to her wife’s death, according to the report.

The reported action against Good’s wife comes days after at least six federal prosecutors resigned in protest at being ordered to investigate Rebecca.

Donald Trump previously described the couple as ‘professional agitators’, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem referred to Good’s actions as ‘domestic terrorism.’

In footage that swept social media capturing the moments leading up to the shooting, Rebecca appeared to struggle with the car door before telling her wife to ‘drive’ as an ICE agent attempted to coax Good from her vehicle.

Witnesses said the couple had attended the protest to film and act as legal observers, and the footage showed Rebecca confronting and taunting ICE agents seconds before they opened fire.

There is speculation that Rebecca, who admitted to bringing her spouse to the anti-ICE protest, exited the car so she could begin filming any potential clash with federal agents

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother-of-three, was shot three times by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on January 7

Good’s Lawyer told NBC News ‘there has been no contact from the FBI or federal officials indicating Becca Good is the subject of an investigation.’

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who has been hit with his own DOJ investigation this week over his anti-ICE rhetoric, has criticized the federal government’s handling of the investigation into Good’s death.

‘The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her,’ he said.

Six federal prosecutors previously resigned after they were ordered by the US Attorney’s Office in Minnesota to look into Rebecca Good.

Joe Thompson, the former acting US Attorney of Minnesota and the lead in the Feeding Our Future food fraud case, was one of the major names who submitted his resignation.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke out about Thompson’s resignation and the swath of others that followed.

‘Joe is a principled public servant who spent more than a decade achieving justice for Minnesotans. This is a huge loss for our state,’ he wrote on X.

‘It’s also the latest sign Trump is pushing nonpartisan career professionals out of the justice department, replacing them with his sycophants.’

Assistant US Attorneys Harry Jacobs, Thomas Calhoun-Lopez and Melinda Williams, among others, followed suit.

The Justice Department has also launched an investigation in Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

Officials allege the Democrat pair conspired to impede federal agents through public statements.

Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly sent out a memo in December, emphasizing the Justice Department’s mission to stop ‘domestic terrorism’ by investigating groups with an ‘anti-fascist platform.’

Bondi provided a list of statutes with which to charge ‘culpable actors,’ including impeding federal officers, which Rebecca, Walz and Frey have been accused of.

Assaulting, resisting or impeding federal officers is punishable by up to 20 years in prison if the offense includes the use of a ‘deadly or dangerous weapon,’ according to Cornell Law.

As the federal government looks to probe Good’s widow, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has said there was ‘currently no basis’ for an investigation into Ross.

Those familiar with the investigation reportedly told The New York Times that the civil rights division of the Department of Justice, which typically investigates police-involved shootings, has not opened a probe into whether Ross violated Good’s rights under federal law.

Ross is ‘increasingly unlikely’ to face criminal charges, the Times reported.
