A brutal assault has left a young father, the sole provider for his family, unable to work, prompting a desperate plea for public help.
Satya Perumal says he was the victim of a coward punch in the early hours of December 13, which left him not only with a broken jaw but also ‘financially broken’.
The 41-year-old, who has been on a bridging visa with full work and study rights since moving to Australia from Malaysia in 2019, told the Daily Mail that ‘everything is ruined’ following the attack.
Mr Perumal, who has a three-year-old son with his wife, was king hit about 3.25am after a confrontation while working as a delivery driver in Melbourne.
According to the driver, two men riding scooters pulled out in front of his truck while he was making late-night deliveries on Queens Road in Albert Park, repeatedly performing wheelies and blocking his path.
He said he tried to avoid them for about 10 minutes and warned them they were putting themselves in danger, as they could fall and be hit by his truck.
The situation escalated when he eventually asked them to move aside, which he says prompted aggressive language from the riders, who then allegedly told him to get out of his truck.
‘I tried avoiding them for a good 10 minutes before eventually asking them to get out of the way,’ Mr Perumal said.

‘This led to aggressive language from their end and they asked me to get out of the truck.’
Mr Perumal said he then misjudged the situation and decided to get out of his vehicle.
He claims the physical threats began immediately, and as he was calling 000 for help, one of the men punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground.
‘I asked why they were doing it. I told them I would call the police and then one of them beat me,’ he said.
The damage from the assault required Mr Perumal to have a plate and four screws inserted into his jaw.
He claims Victoria Police haven’t ‘done anything’ despite him providing a detailed report of the incident.
‘Police say that they can’t ask the nearby businesses for CCTV footage and my employer says that he is unable to download footage from the security camera in the truck,’ he claimed.
‘Given my condition, I’m unable to work and the employer has not allowed me to claim work cover.’
Mr Perumal is trying to raise $30,000 through a GoFundMe page to help him with his family expenses while he’s out of work.

‘I’m on a visa and cannot claim any benefits, I request the community to please help me,’ he said.
‘I’m not sure when I’ll be able to work again because I still have to have another operation.
‘I can only eat porridge ahead of another surgery where five teeth will be removed.’
