Updated:

Nick Reiner was formally charged by officials with two counts of first degree murder in his parents’ killing on Tuesday.

Nick is accused of violently murdering his famous parents Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70.

These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole or the death penalty. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said no decision had been made yet whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

Earlier on Tuesday, Nick’s lawyer Alan Jackson said his client had not been medically cleared to be transferred from the jail to the courthouse, but did not disclose any further details about his condition or the case according to the New York Times.

Nick currently remains in jail without bail and is being held on suicide watch in administrative segregation at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

At the time of Nick’s arrest, his sister Romy, 27, who discovered their parents bodies, told investigators her brother ‘should be a suspect’ because he was ‘dangerous.’

Daily Mail broke down all the latest developments.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that the office is charging Nick Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents.

‘These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders,’ Hochman said.

‘He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous weapon, that being a knife.

‘These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.’

Hochman continued by saying officials would take the ‘thoughts and desires of the family into consideration,’ when pursuing the death penalty against Reiner, however, no decision had been made yet whether prosecutors will seek it.

Exclusive:See the moment Nick Reiner is arrested

Dramatic new footage shows the moment cops swooped on Nick Reiner and arrested him for the brutal murders of his Hollywood legend father Rob Reiner and mother Michele.

Video exclusively obtained by the Daily Mail shows how police cars with flashing lights descended on a busy intersection in downtown Los Angeles about 15 miles from the Reiner family’s $13.5million home in Brentwood.

Nick was seen walking slowly down the road before raising his arms in surrender as he was circled by cops, the surveillance tape from a nearby service station shows.

Nick may lose out on inheritance if convicted

Nick Reiner could lose out on his parents’ inheritance if he is convicted of their murder.

Estate and trusts attorney Sean Weissbart, a partner at Blank Rome LLP who is not connected to the case, told People that Nick would become ineligible to inherit his parents’ estate if he is ultimately convicted, under state law.

‘California has what’s called a slayer statute, which says if you kill someone that you’re going to inherit from, you lose your inheritance and any right to serve as a fiduciary of their estate,’ he said.

‘So assuming he’s convicted of this murder, he’s out as beneficiary, along with any fiduciary appointments he may have.’

Even if Nick is not convicted though, Weissbart said the slayer statute could still apply.

‘I was looking at the statute and it doesn’t require an actual conviction. It requires a person who feloniously and intentionally killed the decedent. And so since the slayer statute is civil, arguably it could apply if the court determined that this person had committed this murder, even if for some reason, the person could no longer be charged criminally.’

Along with Nick, the Reiners had two children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28. Rob was also a father to daughter Tracy, 61, whom he adopted from his first marriage to the late Penny Marshall.

It also alleges that he ‘personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, to wit [a] knife’ to kill them.

Anthony Scaramucci declares ‘Trump era is ending’ following backlash to Reiner post

One-time White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci has declared on social media that the ‘Trump era is ending’ following backlash to the president’s post about Reiner’s death.

‘When top advisors feel emboldened to speak so candidly, something’s up,’ he said, referencing an interview Chief of Staff Susie Wiles conducted.

‘And I think the reaction to Rob Reiner, by all accounts a decent person with a troubled child from both the right and left is more than a surface crack,’ he argued.

Rob Schneider remembers Reiner’s career

Speaking to The Will Cain Show on Fox News, Rob Schneider noted that Reiner had ‘perhaps the greatest career of any director in the 1990s.’

‘Anybody could get lucky and make a good movie, but to make a great one — how many people could say they made a great one? He made five in six years.

‘I mean that’s just a phenomenal talent.’

The actor also said that Reiner ‘made movies that made people feel good.

‘He made movies that had happy endings, he made movies that exuded this good feeling.

‘He understood how to make a film – very few people were able to do that,’ Schneider said.

Officials say there was ‘no indication’ Nick Reiner was high during arrest

In a press conference on Tuesday, police said that there was no indication that Nick Reiner was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.

Reiner allegedly had complicated history with substance abuse and mental health issues prior to his arrest and had been living in a guest house on his parent’s property

Sources said that Nick’s drug use spiraled out of control after his parents threatened to kick him out of their home.

The troubled 32-year-old had been living in his parents’ guesthouse in Los Angeles for the past five years – where his behavior had become increasingly erratic and frightening, insiders claimed.

‘Nick had been living in their guesthouse, the same one he destroyed more than once, but it had been like a revolving door all his adult life,’ a source close to Reiner told the Daily Mail on Monday.

‘He would do meth and not sleep for days and then have outbursts, breaking things, punching walls.

‘He was a ticking time bomb. His drug use was getting worse and his parents wanted him out,’ claimed the friend.

DA expects no ‘significant’ delays in Nick’s case

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office does not anticipate any significant delay in the case against Nick Reiner.

‘We don’t anticipate any significant delay more than is involved in a first degree murder case with special circumstances,’ DA Nathan Hochman told reporters at a press conference Tuesday.

He added that Nick is facing ‘some of the most serious charges that a DA’s office can bring against anyone.

‘And we anticipate that the discovery that we will produce to the defense will be robust. It will be very involved. They’ll want adequate time to review it, though.

‘Again, they’ll want to go through every single factor that they can ascertain in the defense,’ he explained.

Hochman, though, said he does not expect the case will move forward quickly as prosecutors work to be ‘very thorough.’
