A grieving widow has opened up about the shock loss of her husband in a tragic workplace accident.
Laura Stinson is ‘carrying the weight of two broken hearts’ after Tom Bernard was killed when a truck he was travelling in as a passenger crashed into a railway bridge in Lithgow west of Sydney on November 6.
The bridge collapsed onto the vehicle, trapping 35-year-old high-voltage electrician for Sydney Trains inside the truck.
He died at the scene after being trapped inside the truck for hours.
His colleague who was behind the wheel managed to free himself from the wreckage.
A Blue Mountains local, Mr Bernard leaves behind a devastated wife and 18-month-old daughter, Ella.
Ms Stinson, 37, said that the hardest thing is knowing her daughter would grow up without her beloved father.
‘‘The idea that Ella will never get to know her father, who was the most special person I’ve ever met, is unbearable to me. I’m not only feeling my own loss but her’s as well and I’m carrying the weight of two broken hearts,’ she told Daily Mail.

‘I’ll be putting my daughter to bed and he’ll be constantly in my thoughts with every moment we used to share together.

She said her husband loved being a father and wrote songs and played the guitar for his daughter while making her laugh.
Mr Bernard’s family had to endure hours of worry after learning he had been involved in an accident without knowing exactly how he was.
Friends and loved ones have rallied around his wife and daughter as they grapple with the devastating loss.
‘What’s happened is the stuff of nightmares: one day your life partner and the father of your child kisses you goodbye in the morning and heads off to work, then the next thing you know, he’s not coming home. It’s a horror none of us want to think about – and Laura and Ella are living it,’ Ms Stinson’s sister Clare said.
An online fundraiser as been set up by family friend Holly Miller.
‘Their small family of three, so full of love and everyday joy, is now suddenly two – and their world has shifted in ways words can’t fully hold,’ Ms Miller wrote.
