Rescue crews were seen frantically rushing towards an easyJet flight after it was grounded at Manchester Airport following a ‘collision’.

The flight, bound for Lanzarote, had been preparing to leave from Terminal 1 when the incident occurred on Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, the front wheels of the A320 plane made contact with the aircraft tug – a vehicle usually deployed to pull planes on the ground as they do not have a reverse gear.

Passengers on flight EZY 2029, which was due to take off at 7am, have disembarked and boarded another aircraft while safety checks were undertaken.

No injuries were reported following the incident, which did not cause disruption or delay to any other flights, but one gate was closed.

An easyJet spokesperson said: ‘Flight EZY2029 from Manchester to Lanzarote this morning has been delayed departing after the tug came into contact with the aircraft during pushback from the terminal.
