Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz slammed Donald Trump‘s powerful Federal Communications Commission chairman following Jimmy Kimmel‘s removal by ABC.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr earlier threatened ABC and Disney to ‘change conduct and take action’ against Kimmel following comments he made regarding Charlie Kirk‘s assassination.

Later that day, Nexstar and Sinclair, which air Kimmel’s show on local affiliates across the country, announced it will no longer broadcast the comedian indefinitely.

Disney-owned ABC as well announced Kimmel’s show would not air on the network. Kimmel’s comedy career with ABC lasted more than 20 years through 23 seasons of his show.

Cruz, who has appeared on Kimmel’s show in the past for friendly interviews and segments, called Carr’s actions ‘dangerous’ as hell’ and ‘right out of Goodfellas.’

‘If the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you, the media, have said; we’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like’ — that will end up bad for conservatives,’ the Texan asserted.

Cruz went on to compliment Carr and add that he was ‘thrilled’ to witness Kimmel’s removal from the air.

‘Look, I like Brendan Carr. He’s a good guy, he’s the chairman of the FCC. I work closely with him, but what he said there is dangerous as hell.’

However, the Texas senator warned conservatives against using the FCC’s influence to punish speech because it could be used against them by a future Democratic White House.

‘They will silence us,’ Cruz warned on his podcast. ‘They will use this power, and they will use it ruthlessly.’

The Daily Mail reached out to Carr and the FCC for comment.

Cruz, a longtime Trump loyalist on Capitol Hill, joins other GOP lawmakers who have warned the FCC against using its power to silence dissident speech.

Kimmel faced criticism during a Monday monologue when he claimed a MAGA supporter was responsible for Kirk’s killing.

Utah Prosecutors and Gov. Spencer Cox says the shooting suspect, Tyler Robinson, is actually a left-winger.

The comedian said the following: ‘We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.’

Kimmel remains the highest profile individual to lose employment for comments they made surrounding Kirk’s murder. 

However, hundreds of academics, educators, and media pundits have also lost their jobs for insensitive remarks.

On Friday, reports surfaced that Kimmel planned to double-down on his original comments for his next episode’s monologue, prompting Disney executives to pull the plug on the show.
