Kentucky cheerleader took selfies during birth then dumped baby to die and got McDonald’s, cops say

Kentucky cheerleader accused of disposing of her newborn took selfies during labor and went to McDonald’s after giving birth, court papers show.

Laken Ashlee Snelling, 21, was arrested on August 31 after police found the body of a baby boy wrapped in a trash bag and towel in her bedroom closet.

Her arrest affidavit lays bare chilling new details about what happened in her apartment at 4am — from the labor, to the grisly cleanup and her trip to McDonald’s later that morning.

It states that Snelling left her home in Lexington for class at the University of Kentucky but stopped first to get fast food.

While there, her roommates called 911 to report a ‘blood-soaked towel’ found in her room. When officers arrived, they discovered the baby’s body in her closet.

Snelling returned home shortly afterwards and was taken into custody.

She allegedly told authorities the baby had ‘made a whimper’ and that she ‘guessed’ he was alive at birth, according to the affidavit.

Investigators later uncovered disturbing images on her phone — including photos she took while she was in labor, which she tried to delete.

Laken Ashlee Snelling is said to have visited McDonald’s and ordered takeout after giving birth

Snelling told cops she was conscious for 30 minutes after giving birth, before ‘falling asleep on top of the baby and going back to sleep,’ the affidavit states.

After an undisclosed amount of time, Snelling said she woke up to find her baby was ‘turning blue and purple’.

She told cops she wrapped the boy in a towel ‘like a burrito’ and laid next to him on the ground, per the affidavit.

Snelling said this ‘gave her a little comfort in the moment’ and she fell back asleep until her alarm sounded at 7.30am for class.

The new mother said she cleaned the bloody scene in her bedroom before placing the baby in the trash bag and her placenta ‘inside of a ziplock bag’ which she disposed of.

She left home to go to class, but stopped for a McDonald’s takeout.

‘Laken stated that she did not go into class, but sat in her vehicle in the parking lot,’ the affidavit reads.

‘Ms Snelling stated that she wasn’t feeling well so she ordered McDonalds through the McDonalds app.

‘Ms Snelling said that after getting McDonalds, she went to the University of Kentucky’s Student Clinic where she also did not go inside.

‘After this, Ms Snelling stated she returned home where she was detained and transported to headquarters for questioning.’

Police said ‘the photos that were taken while she was in labor were deleted in an attempt to hide the birth’

The affidavit states that Snelling was also taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, and she spoke with staff at the labor and delivery unit.

She told them her baby had shown ‘a little bit of fetal movement,’ made a ‘whimper,’ and that she ‘guessed’ he was alive at birth.

During a search of her phone, police uncovered more evidence.

They said: ‘A search warrant of Ms Snelling’s phone resulted in locating several searches including different things pertaining to pregnancy, images of her during labor, photos of her doing things ordinary pregnant women would not be doing, and [evidence of] a concealed or hidden pregnancy.

‘Also, during the search of the phone, the photos that were taken while she was in labor were deleted in an attempt to hide the birth.’

Snelling appeared in court on Friday, where she waived her right to a preliminary hearing during a brief 35-second court appearance, WKYT reported.

The former cheerleader is charged with concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In the search warrant requests for her digital accounts, investigators stated their belief that these platforms ‘could contain current or deleted information related to Ms Snelling and the ongoing investigation.’

Snelling remains out on bond and is under house arrest, ordered to live with her parents in Tennessee as she awaits a decision from the grand jury on whether she will be formally indicted.

Questions still remain in the case, including how the child died – as Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said that a preliminary autopsy was inconclusive.

It is also unclear whether Snelling, who has since dropped out of school, had told anyone she was pregnant.

But unearthed footage from April shows Snelling performing with UK’s STUNT team with what appears to be a pregnant bump on her stomach.

As previously reported, Snelling also posted images in June where her then-boyfriend, former college basketball star Connor Jordan, 24, held her stomach, which appeared to have a visible bump.

Other images posted on social media in recent months also showed Snelling with what appeared to be a stomach bump.

Those who know the former cheerleader have told the Daily Mail how she was an ‘appearance-obsessed serial bully’ at school.

She is even accused of once trying to run down a fellow student with a Jeep and being so mean that others transferred to different schools to get away from her.
