The body of a baby has been found by tradesmen who were cleaning a drain in suburban Perth.
Police responded to reports of a body being located in a stormwater drain in Alexander Heights, 17km north of the CBD, about 1pm on Monday.
Multiple police resources have been deployed to the location of the drain on La Salle Road.
Detectives are speaking to local residents to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Alexander Heights resident David Bigwood told ABC News he was devastated to learn about the discovery.
He and his partner, who have a 17-month old child, understood tradespeople found the body while cleaning the drain.
There are six stormwater drains along the short suburban street.
Houses can be found on the northern side of La Salle Road while a nature reserve runs along the southern side.
