Two female police officers have been allegedly assaulted, with one found unresponsive, after a routine welfare check took a turn in Sydney‘s west.

NSW Police were called to Bunya Road, Bidwill, just before 6.30pm on Friday after reports a young man was lying in the middle of the road.

As two female officers approached the man, he allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old female constable by kicking and punching her.

She then reportedly fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

The second officer, a 22-year-old constable, was allegedly punched in the face by the man, before she deployed capsicum spray.

‘This was an allegedly unprovoked and sickening attack on three young police officers who were simply doing their job,’ Acting NSW Police Commissioner Thurtell said in a statement on Saturday.

‘I commend the bravery and courage of the officers involved – they deserve respect not violence.’

First responders and paramedics attended to the unconscious 23-year-old officer at the scene before she was transported to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Emergency services rushed to Bunya Road in Sydney’s west after reports a female officer was injured during what was believed to be a welfare check (the scene is pictured)

The second officer was also treated at the scene and was taken to Mount Druitt Hospital as a precaution.

Both women have been discharged from hospital.

Two other officers then arrived and arrested a 19-year-old man at the scene.

He allegedly bit a third, male police officer on the arm as he was transported first to Mt Druitt Police Station and then Nepean Hospital for assessment.

The constable was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for treatment.

The 19-year-old has since been released from hospital.

He has been charged with three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and three counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The teen was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
