An international Delta flight was forced to make an emergency landing after dozens of passengers were injured due to ‘significant turbulence.’

The airline says Flight 56, which was en route from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Amsterdam, was diverted to Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, where it landed safely at around 7.45pm on Wednesday.

It had departed from Salt Lake City at around 4.35 local time, or 5.35pm in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis Fire Department officials and paramedics met the flight at the gate to evaluate passengers and crew, and 25 passengers had to be transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care, according to CBS News.

Early reports suggest some passengers were lifted out of their seats during the extreme turbulence, and some are now being evaluated for possible broken bones.

The Airbus A330-900 had 275 customers and 13 crew members on board.

‘We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved,’ a Delta spokesperson said.

‘Safety is our No. 1 value at Delta and our Delta Care Team is working directly with customers to support their immediate needs.’
