Queen’s hit Another One Bites The Dust has topped a list of the funniest – and most tasteless – funeral songs.
The 1980 single is ahead of Disco Inferno by The Trammps in second place and Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy in third.
Researchers at insurance giant SunLife were surprised to see Highway To Hell by AC/DC also making the shortlist from its study of 1,500 Britons who had organised a funeral.
They found that some folk chose ‘dark humour’ as a final send off, or simply tried to ‘lighten the mood’ for mourners.
Even Cockney classic Knees Up Mother Brown featured, a pub song from the 19th century.
A spokesman for SunLife said its 2025 Cost of Dying report revealed that 27 per cent of funerals included songs chosen by the deceased, up from 25 per cent in the 2024 report.
She added: ‘This year’s report reveals a 2 per cent increase in the number of people that make their funeral song preferences known – 27 per cent, up from 25 per cent in 2024.

‘The data also reveals that while the number is still relatively low, those who do pass on their song choices have a pretty good sense of humour when it comes to death.
‘Some of the more unusual choices included I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred, Disco Inferno (Burn Baby Burn) by the Trammps, Firestarter by The Prodigy and Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust.’
The spokesman said, however that its study of 1,500 Brits who had organised a funeral in the past year found that the majority didn’t know what the deceased wanted.
She added: ‘As well as 73 per cent not being aware of what song their loved one wanted, 51 per cent didn’t know if they wanted a burial or cremation.
‘A total of 67 per cent didn’t know if they wanted a religious service or not, while 18 per cent admitted they didn’t know any of their loved one’s preferences at all.’
Bosses at SunLife have set up a ‘funeral songs generator’, which asks a number of questions to help personalise funeral songs, which it says can help people discuss funerals in a ‘light-hearted way’.
