A major manhunt is underway after a young man was stabbed to death in a walkway near a busy train station.
The man was attacked on Shellharbour Road in Dunmore, near Shellharbour Junction train station on the NSW south coast shortly before 3pm on Tuesday.
The man died at the scene, despite paramedics’ best efforts to revive him.
The victim is yet to be formally identified.
‘A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death has commenced, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,’ a police statement read.
One witness claimed that several males were allegedly involved in the attack.
‘I saw guys jumping in a white SUV with balaclavas on and speeding off,’ he said.

About 10 police cars as well as several ambulances attended the scene, just metres away from homes.
Several emergency responders held up white sheets to shield the man’s body from public view.
Police were seen canvassing nearby scrub as forensic specialists collected evidence from the scene.
Officers were also seen inspecting a crowbar and another abandoned item found lying nearby.
